Hi, I’m Carina. I moved to Vancouver in 2012 when I was 15 years old, and since then, I’ve journeyed through high school, university, and into the working world. I’ve always had a passion for beauty, fashion, and especially for manicures. There’s something so satisfying about having beautifully polished nails—they make me feel confident and put together.

But during the COVID-19 pandemic, getting a manicure at a salon became a challenge. Salons were either closed or required appointments, and even if I could secure a spot, there was no guarantee that the manicurist wouldn’t botch the job. The frustration grew as prices skyrocketed; what used to be a routine treat now demanded exorbitant costs and hours of my time. A basic manicure could take 3-4 hours, with rising fees and tips making the whole process feel increasingly unreasonable.
In my quest to recreate that salon experience at home, I tried everything from drugstore press-on nails to machine-made falsies from Shoppers and Claire’s. But their poor quality was immediately apparent—they looked cheap, felt plasticky, were too thin, and broke easily. Most importantly, they lacked the elegance I sought. I turned to handmade press-on nails, hoping for a better alternative, but even those fell short. Toxic polishes, ill-fitting nails, and packaging that reeked of chemicals became the norm, not to mention the subpar nail prep kits that were barely functional.
Disillusioned by these experiences, I realized that if I wanted something truly exceptional, I’d have to create it myself. So, after wrapping up my work in Vancouver in 2023, I founded No Mood But Nails.
